Make your own wood shaving ornaments! Inspired from traditional Scandinavian wood ornaments, we’ll use wood shavings made from hand planes, and use wood glue to create naturally beautiful and festive decorations. These designs take a little bit of patience, but the results are worth it!

We’ll make some more traditional patterns, and we’ll also use materials from nature for inspiration, so you can go wherever your imagination takes you. Ranging from complex patterns to fun and simple curls, these shavings ornaments would make nice gifts and pleasing holiday decorations for years to come! Depending on the size and intricacy of your designs, each participant will be able to make 1 – 5 ornaments during the workshop. You’ll also have the opportunity, if desired, to try out a hand plane or shavehorse to make your own shavings.

We provide all the materials — lots and lots of curled wood shavings from hand planing — and supplies needed.

Space is limited to 10 participants. We are asking all participants to be vaccinated if they’d like to attend this workshop. We might be wearing masks indoors at this time, depending on CDC recommendations.

Children are welcome to attend with an adult; we recommend ages 10+. This is a fun project but it requires attention to detail.

Please leave your pets at home, and wear clothing that you don’t mind getting glue on. (Just in case!)
